12:53 am - The Newfoundlander

There are things that I will never understand. One
such thing is how a person could ever want to leave
newfoundland. I can certainly understand the reasons
why a person would have to leave. It's no secret
that this place has become a haven for a dwindling
species, and that some must go in order to survive.
But I will never, ever understand how a person could
look at everything here, and decide that they could
do better.
While writing this, I find that the words aren't
coming easily. It's difficult to express any type of
emotion using something so small as the written
word. It's even more difficult for a person if it's
one of the most intense emotions that they recall
feeling. But, this emotion is so strong that
sometimes I feel like I might come apart if I hold
it in. Sometimes I cry because I can't control all
of the love inside of me that wants to burst forth.
It's almost as if I need others to know the force of
it, and what it does to me. And that is the emotion
I feel: Love.
I love my home as much as I could ever
love another person. I love it as if it WERE a
person. Sometimes I wish I could put my arms around
it and hold onto it, the same way I would a
long-time friend, someone who knows me better than
anyone, and who loves me unconditionally, because we
are one and the same. Sometimes I feel so close to
my home that I imagine that I could be timeless,
created out of haggard rocks and gnarled branches. I
know this sounds weird, but there's no other way to
describe it. Words are not enough. My attachment to
my home boarders on romantic. I could no sooner
leave it than leave a piece of myself behind. The
person waiting after a long journey leading away
from here would not be me. She would be but a small
piece, sad and alone.
I will never see a more beautiful image in my life,
and I know this. When I was a child I thought it
would be interesting to travel, to adventure to
other countries and see things, old things. But I no
longer fantasize about these adventures. They hold
no great mystery for me anymore. I have found a
place more interesting and more valuable to me than
one million Romes, Irelands, Londons... The peaceful
blue-green of the Caribbean holds nothing to the
steely grays and dull blues I have seen. The
colorful birds and sparkling fish are nothing to me
when compared to the songbirds and sea creatures I
know. Exotic languages and styles are unimpressive
and can even be a little aggravating when I remember
the kindly faces, quick-paced dialect, calm natures
and smells of the sea, earth and trees.
I love my home so much that I pine for it, even when
I am near it. There are many things that make a
person complete. We all have our own personalities
and beliefs. We all have important pieces of
ourselves that others need to know in order to know
the real us. If there's one thing that I need people
to know about me and to remember about me when I am
dead and gone it's that I love Newfoundland. I am in
love with Newfoundland.
I guess I have seagulls in my eyes.

I am soooome sick. And sooooome poor. But, on a brighter note, almost all of my christmas shopping is done and november has not yet ended. Mmmhmm, I'm on top of my game. Yis b'y.
I think that maybe I've avoided getting a cold for this past two months out of sheer will power. Because just yesterday I thought, I might get sick if I think that I could get sick. And bam, I'm sick. Either that or the cold germs MADE me this that. It's something I'll have to look into.

P.S. Congratulations to Mr. Russell Peddle on the CD release goodness. Sorry I couldn't make it to the show. I feel like death warmed over... Like 10 pounds of shit in a 5 pound bag.

Social Work is fabulous so far. It's all pretty much been discussions on our opinions, some heated debates... Well, sort of... Just the kind where people listen to someone disagree with them while turning slightly red. Oooo, and there's been profanity, oh lovely!!! One topic we touched on was the new Nissan commercial, which I love. Some did not.
Tonight: I will study my books and overdose on cough syrup.

I'm still alive, so don't worry 'bout that. I am soooome tired. It turns out I have a heel spur, and so I'm on anti-inflamatories, which really hurt my stomach. But whatev, at least my foot doesn't hurt anymore.

I should soooo be studying. My exam is tomorrow and I still haven't read all the chapters... oops. Supposed to study last night, but had big happy bbq and then went for a walk in the woods, and didn't get back until nearly 11pm. I likes da woods right? Yis. Ya knows now.
We met many an interesting character along the way too. But everyone is getting older.
I miss Natasha. Pooh. Will you be back in time for cabin-y good times? Just tell your peeps that you could only get an early flight... Or do you already have one booked? When is it?! Come home!!!

In just a few short weeks, everything will be back to normal. Home!!! It almost makes the last few weeks of work bearable.

I'm at home watching "Nature of the Beast" on Discovery. This episode is called "Rodents: The fast and the furriest". From what I can tell, they are trying to discern which rodent is the awesomest. So far I've watched the Deer Mouse, which has been eaten by both a coyote and and owl. You suck Deer Mouse.
Next I will watch House Mouse.
